This weekend we had a booth once again at the
Cache Valley Farmers/Gardeners Market.
I sold my French and English Lavender.
We spent Friday afternoon removing the buds from the lavender and then sifting them to remove any unwanted leaves and stems. It was a tedious process but we sure smelt good when it was done.
I just read your article about lavender in the Deseret News. It was wonderful. I have about 20 plants In my backyard. I live south of Provo in Springville. Do you open to the public? Where do you go to the farmer's market? One more question... How do you cut back your lavender? I saw one website where a farm used a scythe.
ReplyDeleteI love lavender for everything!
I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I too love everything lavender. Right now I'm at the Logan and Ogden farmers market. I've decided not to open to the public due to access to my property, respecting the privacy of my neighbors. Next year I plan on being in Salt lake and Park city.
ReplyDeleteRegarding cutting back my lavender. Yes, it is very important to harvest and cut back your lavender every year. We use a short cutting scythe with a serrated edge. The plant should look like a big pin cushion when you are done. I am sure you have seen the pictures. You can find the scythe at www.purplehazelavender.com.
Thank you for the info. I ordered the scythe. Love the website. Hope to visit your booth.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Sandy
